We need your help!
We at the Friends of Sturgeon Bay Public Waterfront believe that Sturgeon Bay’s westside waterfront belongs to the people of Sturgeon Bay.
This belief is based on 100-plus years of precedent reinforcing the Public Trust that is part of the Wisconsin State Constitution. This belief is supported by our attorneys – Wheeler, Van Sickle and Anderson of Madison, Wis. – who are among the state’s preeminent legal experts on water rights issues. This belief is also supported by Midwest Environmental Advocates, Wisconsin League of Conservation Voters, Door Property Owners, Door County Environmental Council, Democratic Party of Door County, Preserve Our Parks, and Great Lakes Commons.
Just as our state parks and nonprofit-protected nature preserves should not be put up for sale, neither should our filled public waterfronts. After numerous attempts were ignored to engage the City of Sturgeon Bay in discussion on this matter, a lawsuit was filed. To date, over 200 of your friends and neighbors have contributed a total of over $90,000, plus all groups that have publicly endorsed our efforts.
Now we need your help to fund this important action.
If you love Sturgeon Bay and Door County and care about the future of our public lands, please make a gift today. Gifts of any size – $5, $20, $100 or $1,000 – are greatly appreciated and make a big difference.
